De Distantalna splendida komt voor in Zuidoost-Azië en kenmerkt zich door zijn opvallende kleuren en robuuste bouw. De Ambragaena ambra is eveneens afkomstig uit Azië en vertoont een karakteristieke lichaamsvorm met transparante vleugels. Cicades brengen het grootste deel van hun leven ondergronds door als nimf, waar ze zich voeden met plantensappen uit boomwortels. Na jaren ondergronds te hebben geleefd, komen ze naar de oppervlakte om te vervellen tot volwassen exemplaren. De volwassen cicades leven enkele weken tot maanden en zijn actief overdag in bomen en struiken.
