Sevenia pechueli werd vroeger ook Crenis pechueli genoemd. Ook wordt deze soort soms Asterope pechueli genoemd, echter is dit volgens de taxonomie niet correct.
De Sevenia pechueli behoort tot de familie van de Nymphalidae. Deze vlinder kenmerkt zich door zijn paars iriserende vleugels met zwarte stippen en banden. Het metallic effect ontstaat door de microscopische structuur van de schubben op de vleugels, die licht op een specifieke manier weerkaatsen.
