De Eurytides protesilaus, ook bekend als de Great Kite-Swallowtail, behoort tot de familie van de Papilionidae (pages). Deze vlinder kenmerkt zich door zijn elegante, langwerpige vleugels. De onderste vleugels hebben buiten zwarte en witte strepen ook een rood vlekje. De achtervleugels hebben lange, slanke staarten.
Eurytides protesilaus vlinders zijn snelle vliegers die vaak in open gebieden en langs bosranden worden waargenomen. De vlinders voeden zich met nectar van verschillende bloemen. De soort vertoont seizoensgebonden variatie in vleugeltekening, waarbij exemplaren uit verschillende periodes subtiele verschillen kunnen vertonen.
We hebben expres gekozen voor zwart en rood om de kleurcombinatie van de vlinder te benadrukken. Bij een opbergkader kan je het slotje steeds los doen om de vlinder zonder glas ervoor te bewonderen.
