Ergens, diep onder de grond, begon dit ooit als een oplossing van mineraalrijk water dat langzaam door scheuren in het gesteente sijpelde. Wat achterbleef, kristal na kristal, zijn deze scherpe, tandvormige punten — opgebouwd over miljoenen jaren, zonder haast, zonder plan.
Aragoniet en calciet zijn chemisch gezien hetzelfde mineraal. Maar de omstandigheden waaronder ze groeiden — druk, temperatuur, tijd — gaven elk een totaal andere vorm. Dog tooth calciet dankt zijn naam aan de spitse kristalvorm die zo kenmerkend is voor dit type. Elke punt is anders, elk vlak vangt het licht op zijn eigen manier.

Somewhere deep underground, this began as a solution of mineral-rich water slowly seeping through cracks in the rock. What remained, crystal by crystal, are these sharp, tooth-shaped points — built up over millions of years, without haste, without intention.
Aragonite and calcite are chemically the same mineral. But the conditions under which they grew — pressure, temperature, time — gave each a completely different form. Dog tooth calcite gets its name from the distinctive pointed crystal shape so characteristic of this type. Every point is different, every facet catches the light in its own way.
