Wanneer een vlinder rust met gesloten vleugels, is het de onderkant die zichtbaar is — en bij Callicore hystaspes is die onderkant ronduit bijzonder. Het patroon op de achtervleugels vormt een geometrisch figuur dat sterk lijkt op het getal 8, wat de soort in het Engels de bijnaam eighty-eight butterfly heeft opgeleverd. Dit werk plaatst die onderkant bewust centraal, samen met Eunica norica, waarvan de onderkant een subtiel camouflagepatroon toont in bruine en grijze tinten.
De opbergkader is voorzien van een handgegraveerd Triskelion — het drievoudige spiraalornament dat al duizenden jaren voorkomt in Keltische en pre-Keltische culturen en symbool staat voor beweging, cyclus en wedergeboorte. Gecombineerd met gedroogde bloemen ontstaat een werk dat naturalia en symboliek met elkaar verbindt. Dit is een éénmalig stuk dat niet opnieuw zal worden gemaakt.
Callicore hystaspes behoort tot de familie Nymphalidae en komt voor in Zuid-Amerika. De bovenkant van de vleugels is levendig blauw en zwart, maar het is de onderkant — met het kenmerkende 8-patroon — die de soort zijn meest herkenbare kenmerk geeft. Eunica norica is eveneens een Nymphalidae uit Zuid-Amerika, met een onderkant die gekenmerkt wordt door fijne vlekpatronen die in het wild als camouflage dienen wanneer de vlinder rust op boomschors of dood blad.

When a butterfly rests with its wings closed, it is the underside that becomes visible — and in Callicore hystaspes, that underside is truly remarkable. The pattern on the hindwings forms a geometric figure closely resembling the number 8, earning the species its English nickname: the eighty-eight butterfly. This work deliberately places that underside at the center, alongside Eunica norica, whose underside displays a subtle camouflage pattern in brown and grey tones.
The shadow box features a hand-engraved Triskelion — the triple spiral ornament that has appeared in Celtic and pre-Celtic cultures for thousands of years, symbolizing movement, cycle, and rebirth. Combined with dried flowers, the result is a work that connects naturalia and symbolism. This is a one-of-a-kind piece that will not be made again.

The upperside of the wings is vivid blue and black, but it is the underside — with its distinctive figure-8 pattern — that gives the species its most recognizable feature.
