Daphnis hypothous (Pijlstaartmot) – Bruine Kader met Zwarte Achtergrond
Daphnis hypothous is een pijlstaartmot uit de familie Sphingidae, hier opgezet en gepresenteerd in een donkerbruine kader met zwarte achtergrond. De soort komt voor in Zuid- en Zuidoost-Azië, waaronder India, Sri Lanka, Thailand en Indonesië. Met een spanwijdte van ongeveer 70 tot 90 millimeter is Daphnis hypothous een middelgrote vertegenwoordiger van de Sphingidae. De voorvleugels zijn groenachtig tot olijfbruin met een fijn patroon van donkere lijnen en vlekken. De achtervleugels zijn roze tot roodachtig met een donkere rand.
Pijlstaartmotten zijn nachtactief en staan bekend om hun uitzonderlijke vliegvermogen. Ze zijn in staat om zwevend te vliegen terwijl ze met hun lange roltong nectar opnemen uit bloemen — een techniek vergelijkbaar met die van kolibries. De larven van Daphnis hypothous voeden zich met planten uit de familie Rubiaceae en Apocynaceae.

Daphnis hypothous is a hawkmoth from the family Sphingidae, preserved and presented here in a dark brown frame with a black background. The frame is darker in person than it appears in the photo. The combination of the dark frame and black background highlights the subtle green and brown wing patterning that provides excellent camouflage in the moth’s natural environment.
The species occurs across South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia.
