Over Draco sp.
Draco is een geslacht van kleine boomhagedissen uit de familie Agamidae, afkomstig uit Zuid- en Zuidoost-Azië. De soorten binnen dit geslacht staan bekend als vliegende draakjes of flying lizards. Ze leven voornamelijk in tropische en subtropische bossen, waar ze hun tijd doorbrengen in bomen.
Het meest opvallende kenmerk van vliegende draakjes is het patagium: een sterk verlengde vlieghuid die wordt ondersteund door verlengde ribben. Door deze vlieghuid te spreiden kunnen de dieren zweefvluchten maken van boom tot boom, over afstanden van soms meer dan tien meter. Het patagium wordt ook gebruikt bij communicatie en territoriumgedrag: mannetjes spreiden het om rivalen af te schrikken of vrouwtjes aan te trekken.
Vliegende draakjes zijn insecteneters. Ze voeden zich voornamelijk met mieren en termieten, die ze van boomschors oppikken. De soorten zijn overdag actief en sterk territoriaal.

About Draco sp.
Draco is a genus of small arboreal lizards from the family Agamidae, native to South and Southeast Asia. Species within this genus are commonly known as flying lizards. They live primarily in tropical and subtropical forests, spending most of their time in trees.
The most distinctive feature of flying lizards is the patagium: a greatly elongated gliding membrane supported by extended ribs. By spreading this membrane, the lizards can glide from tree to tree over distances of sometimes more than ten meters. The patagium is also used in communication and territorial behavior: males spread it to deter rivals or attract females.
Flying lizards are insectivores, feeding primarily on ants and termites picked from tree bark. The species are diurnal and strongly territorial.
